First things first, enjoy your engagement! Take the time to take it all in, take some selfies together, call some family and friends and celebrate your big news! Soak it all in and don’t forget to savor the engagement before stressing about all the planning and details.
Second, create a budget. This may come up sooner than later, but financials unfortunately will be the head of all your decisions. So, take the time to sit down with your fiancé and determine how much you want to spend for your wedding. The average costs for a Houston wedding are around $25,000. Can you make your dream wedding in less than those costs? It is 100 percent possible with the right help and the right venue! (Hint: pssst…think Pelazzio!)
Third, create your wedding vision board and style! Wedding trends have changed so much over the years, so what kind of wedding captures you two as a couple? Vibrant and colorful? Muted and classic? Modern or rustic? Decor and centerpiece options alone can be a huge task to check off, so hop on Pinterest and start dreaming.
Fourth, pick a season! And start thinking about potential dates! We suggest that you stay as open and flexible with your date as possible, so that you have as many options as you can, but planning with a specific season in mind is a great place to start. Are you a winter, spring, summer, or fall bride? Seasons in Houston can be drastic, summers are scorching hot, and winters are often rainy and cold. So, this should be considered carefully. The season will also determine if you want your wedding venue to be outdoor or indoor or both!
This leads us to number 5, now here’s the big one PICKING YOUR WEDDING VENUE! This will be the center of your entire wedding and will have an impact on your date and timeline. Every venue is different, some are only indoor or outdoor, some come with linens, some come with coordinators, some are just simply paying for the space, and you must do the rest with outside or preferred vendors.

It may look great for photos, but make sure your venue has the space for large parties. At some point everyone will be all together for photos and events, it is important to check that there are spots and room for large bridal parties.
Seventh and finally, plan your guest list and guest count. It is no secret that the number of guests impacts the cost and layout of your wedding day. Talk it over with your fiancé and determine how many guests you both want to invite, then go over it with your venue and or venue coordinator.
